Hatti, Dimi and Diana are litter mates who've resided underneath our house since MommaCat Simba (a neighborhood feral) gave birth to them last year.

Simba had her first litter of kittens underneath our house two years ago. Out of the three kittens from the first year, we captured Pooh and Jinni who are now indoor cats (long story), but we couldn't get the third, Nefertum, who still resides underneath our house.

Hatti, (short for Hatshepsut) is named after an Egyptian (female) Pharaoh. Dimi is short for Demeter, and Diana is named after a Greek Moon Goddess.
We got Hatti, Dimi and Diana spayed/neutered, but Nefertum we couldn't 'fool'. I was so happy that they stayed around after the doctor's visit (I'm sure the daily food/water helps). I'm even happier that Hatti and Diana sometimes allow us to pet them.

Hatti comes right up to the back door if I haven't fed them on time. She also comes by sometimes to talk our indoor cats through the screen door.

MommaCat Simba has been missing for a while now so this year there's no new litter of kittens, but the four cats have pretty much made the back yard their permanent residence.

The two boys are less trusting. Nefertum won't come near me (after all, I took his brother and sister away from him) and Dimi has been very unsure around me after the doctor's visit. He gets uneasy if I even look at him, but I'm hoping with time I can gain his trust again. I don't have a picture of Diana yet, she's a gray tabby like her brother except she's a long hair.

Mr. K.D. (Kool Dude)
Mr. K.D. recently came to be a part of our feral group. The first night I met him he was howling and letting everybody in the neighborhood know all about. I called and called to him and he seemed to want to come to me, but Miss Maisy, having been with me this long feels she has seniority and ownership. Nevertheless I continued calling, "Here kitty, kitty, kitty," it felt like a thousand times. I wanted to call out to a name and "Here kitty, kitty, kitty" turned into, "Here K.D., here K.D." Now he had a name! The next day he was able to get to me without Miss Maisy being around to block him. He is gorgeous (as outdoor cats go), has beautiful long black hair, but my favorite part about him is that he is a lover boy! He just wants to get loved and petted and has a motor that makes VW sound soft and silent. I put Felix's collar on him so hopefully no one will take him without calling my house first. He has a habit of coming "home" (if you will) to my little Feral's Paradise I made. The igloo shaped doghouse, which Miss Maisy finally lets him sleep inside of it with her (which behooves them both, because it keeps them both much warmer with each others body heat). I take him to be fixed this month at the Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Clinic. He will make somebody the best pet in the world, I still have behavioral work to do with him, but he will be adoptable and the hardest part for me is letting them go because as i work with them, I can't help to fall for them-who couldn't like Mr. K.D., he's a sweetie!   ~ Nicole
Miss Maisy's Kitten's
I was cleaning the house all night long, I was now standing in the dining room looking out over the patio, I was happy because I had seen Miss Maisy's profile, just sitting there and Bagheera's profile just sitting there. Everything was casual to me, so I went on doing what I was doing, until Bagheera got up and walked over to the food dish. Between Miss Maisy and Bagheera Had sat a little tiny version of Maisy! I stood there just saying over and over, "Oh My God!" Maisy brought that little kitten there for Bagheera to babysit for her while she went and got the other kitten, there were only two. The whole thing was amazing, whenever even knew she was pregnant! By the advice of my Vet, with whom I speaking at that minute, they said to grab the babies right then. I did so and I raised those little babies, feeding them round the clock with little tiny baby bottles, had to warm their milk and then after they ate I had burp each one of them. It was hard work and tiresome but well worth it. They were healthy as the grew. When they got to be the right poundage, I took Miss Maisy, and both girls to be spayed at the Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Clinic. They all got spayed, so Miss Maisy wouldn't make any more babies, they were beautiful but usually feral and unwanted. I raised these two until they were ready to go and found very good homes for them. I took it upon myself to have the girls spayed because you never know. I'm just glad those precious baby girls are "wanted" rather than "unwanted," like the offsprings of most ferals are. Wherever you are "Aurora" and "Nucijr.", We love you!    ~ Nicole & Geoffrey
Bagheera
He is my beautiful panther-like kitty that befriended Miss Maisy. Everywhere he went, she went, she was little sidekick. They both found my patio together and started eating here together. He, like Maisy, was afraid to be touched, so every day I would go out and read and ignore the cats (on purpose). After about six weeks the big black, panther-like one started to rub my leg. I named him Bagheera because of Disney's Jungle Book, it had a beautiful black panther in there named , Bagheera, and so it just seemed to fit. We called him "McGyver" for a little while because he could find every way of getting into our place, some even I didn't know about. In the hot summer when we had our sliding glass door open and the screen shut, he'd happily let himself in and comfortably, confidently, happily just lay about on the floor while of indoor kitties were leaving everywhich way. After that he was allowed in when he wanted and back out when he wanted, until he decided he liked living in here and so he stays. He has now gained up to 20lbs.+! You would think he's the bruiser of the family, probably because of his size and his demeanor, but is actually a great big marshmallow! An easily reformed feral, who is Momma's Gentle Giant!   ~ Nicole
Miss Maisy
I met Maisy in Feb '99, she would have nothing to do with me, so I gave her good cat food and clean water every day, so she wouldn't eat from the dumpster. She came by every day to eat her food, which was what I wanted. She wouldn't let me touch her for at least six months, maybe more. I worked slowly with her so would trust me. Each feat would would take a while before the next-she was slow to trust, after all she was a feral. I first saw her as a kitten in Nov.'98, just months before I met her. The food kept her coming back, which was just what I needed to get her to trust me. I've been VERY patient (it's going on almost a year) and now I,ve got her letting me pet her, love on her, pick her up. She loves on me too by rubbing me (owning me-I guess I'm her's) and when she's snuggled up in my arms she licks my face. We live where it gets cold, so I got her a an igloo shaped small dog house, lined with towels topped with polar fleece and she's got a "thermal bowl", so her water won't freeze up. Several ferals don't make in harsh weather, I'm gonna save this baby and give her her daily love!  ~ Nicole
